The Central City Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for it's content. As with other library materials, the library does not censor your access or protect your from information you may find offensive, controversial or inappropriate. The Library upholds and affirms the right and responsibility of parents to determine and monitor their children's use of library materials and resources,. Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete or current information. The patron needs to be a good consumer, questioning the validity of the information you find.

No charge for Merrick County Residents.

Services


Free internet access to the public (users under the age of 16 need a parent or guardian present).

Inter-library loan ($1 per request plus postage)

Copier Machine, Fax Machine, Microfilm Reader/Printer (the library has the various Merrick County Newspapers on microfilm and also census records), Computers, Typewriter, Cassette Players, Film & Slide Projectors, multimedia projector and screen.

The Library collection includes: and extensive Reference Sections, a Large Print Section, Audio & Video Cassettes, DVD's, Magazines, Cake Pans, Treasure Tote Bags, Musical CD's, and books on CD.

A Meeting Room is available for use by the public



Check In/Out



The loan period for Books, Magazines, and Audio Cassettes is 2 weeks.

Movies may be checked out for three days (these are non-renewable). Families may check out up to 3 videos per visit.

Cake Pans, Treasure Tote Bags, and Cassette Players, may be checked out for 1 week.

Multimedia Projector, Screen, and laptop computer are available for overnight check-out (a refundable damage deposit for these items may be collected).

Fines



The Overdue fine on most items is $0.10 per day per item

Movies have a $1 per day per item fine (these may not be renewed).

Items may be returned to the book drop located in front of the building, when the library is closed.

Items may be renewed over the phone to avoid late fees (messages may be left on the answering machine when the library is closed).

Community Outreach



Pre-school Story time (for 4 & 5 year-olds who are not in kindergarten yet).

Summer Reading Program (for pre-school through sixth grade).

Story Sessions (The Children's Librarian travels monthly to the local Head Start program and Merrick County Child Development Center.

Delivery of Materials (materials are selected and delivered to the local Senior Center, to the homebound, and to area daycare providers).

Area Schools (The library continually works in conjunction with the area teachers to provide the resources their students need).

There is a book discussion group that meets monthly; GED help is available.
